OAKLAND, CA — After two and a half years of suffering caused by brain and neck injuries caused by the aggression of Oakland police, a man has finally received compensation in a settlement with the city. The violent officers, however, have never been identified, reprimanded, or brought to justice in any meaningful way.

The incident dates back to October 25th, 2011. Citizens were protesting the perceived injustices in their government in what was called an Occupy Oakland rally, which involved day-and-night occupation of the public square. Cops clad in riot gear had fenced them off and surrounded the rally armed with rubber bullets, teargas grenades, and a variety of other weapons they were sanctioned to use at will on the American people.

Among them was then-24-year-old Scott Olsen, a Wisconsin native who had served two tours in Iraq in the United States Marine Corps. Fences separated him from the riot cops, who menaced from only yards away.

That’s when the riot cops began gassing the crowd. As Olsen stood, calmly and without threatening anyone, he was struck in the skull by a 40mm teargas canister teargas grenade launched deliberately by the Oakland police. Olsen dropped to the ground instantly and remained motionless. He had suffered a severe injury.

More than a dozen concerned individuals rushed into help Olsen, who was now bleeding profusely from the forehead, as chemical irritants polluted the air all around. No police officers budged …read more
